Strip clubs and body rub parlours, among other businesses in Mississauga, will pay less to renew a business licence in 2021 — but not as much as city staff had proposed.

On Wednesday, the City of Mississauga announced business licences fee renewal relief for several sectors. Renewal fees will be reduced by 50 per cent for 2021, to a maximum of $300, for personal services, body rub parlours, adult entertainment, driving schools, and restaruants/related food service.

Renewal fees will be reduced by 25 per cent, to a maximum of $300, for taxi, limousine and airport transportation services and tow truck services.

City staff from Transportation and Works presented Mississauga City Council with a two-pronged proposal to reduce the  annual fees paid by local business. It called for fees to be reduced, or even eliminated in the case of body rub parlours, strip clubs, driving schools and restaurants. That would have depended on the extent that the pandemic has affected their revenues.

On May 19, councillors sent the propsoal back to staff.
