A veteran Peel Regional Police constable who received the Ontario Medal of Bravery just three months ago has now been charged with two counts of assault and suspended from the force in connection with an alleged off-duty incident.

Peel police said in a news release this afternoon (July 19) that Const. Jason Beccario, who has served as a constable in Brampton and Mississauga for 16 years, had charges laid against him by investigators with the force’s Professional Standards Bureau.

Police are releasing very few additional details other than to say the alleged incident took place outside of Peel and while the award-winning officer was off-duty.

They did not say where the incident is alleged to have taken place.

Beccario has been suspended with pay in addition to facing the two assault charges. The suspension is called for under the Ontario Police Services Act.

He’ll appear in Brampton court at a date yet to be determined.

After court proceedings have concluded, a Police Services Act hearing will be held.

In April, Beccario and fellow Peel Const. Manikosh Pathak received the Ontario Medal of Bravery from the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario “for their professionalism, confidence in their training and ability to control a chaotic event” during a June 8, 2016 shootout in Brampton.
