Mississauga, Brampton and the rest of southern Ontario could be in for a slightly cooler and drier than usual fall season, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

The almanac, which forecasts short- and long-term weather across Canada and the United States, says daily October temperatures will average 7 degrees Celsius (3 degrees below average) while the average temperature in November for southern Ontario will check in at -2C (4 degrees below average).

However, the 45 millimetres of expected precipitation in October is about 30mm below average while November’s anticipated 55mm is 20mm below average.

Bear in mind that the almanac includes places as far north of Mississauga as Thunder Bay and Sudbury in its southern Ontario forecast, so average temperatures in Mississauga and other parts of the Golden Horseshoe will be higher than the southern Ontario average, but still expected to be lower than normal in relative terms.

According to The Weather Network, Mississauga is looking at temperatures in the 19 to 21C range the remainder of this week and 18 to 23C next week. Following that, the last two weeks of October typically see temperatures ranging from 10 to 13C, per historical averages.

Historical averages for November suggest Mississauga is looking at daytime temperatures ranging from 4C in the latter half of the month to about 10C in the first week of the month.

Taking a look at specific time periods identified by The Old Farmer’s Almanac: Oct. 6-11 across southern Ontario is expected to be relatively mild, Oct. 12-19 showers with some flurries farther north and cool/cold, Oct. 20-23 sunny and cold and Oct. 24-31 is expected to produce cooler temperatures with some rain and snow showers, depending on which region of southern Ontario you’re in.

Aside from milder temperatures forecast for Nov. 7-11, the rest of that month is expected to be cold, “very cold” Nov. 20-30, according to the almanac.
