Mississauga, Hamilton and Brampton surpass Toronto in COVID-19 positivity

Peel Region (Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon) and Hamilton have the second and third highest COVID-19 percent positivity rate out of all of Ontario’s public health units, respectively.

Toronto-based research group ICES ranked all 34 public health units in Ontario for the week of May 23 to 29 based on their percent positivity (percentage of positive tests in the area).

Peel is listed 2nd at 8.50%, Hamilton 3rd at 6.09% and Toronto 4th at 5.70%.

Ontario overall is listed 9th at 4.34%.

Peel’s percentage is down from last week where it reported 11.28%.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of May 23 was 4.3%, a drop from 6.2% the previous week.

Ontario has reached 63% overall vaccine coverage among those aged 12 and up, a 6% increase from the previous week.
