A restaurant chain that got its start in Mississauga has huge expansion plans for 2019.

And one of those plans involves an exciting–albeit mysterious, at this point–collaboration with another Mississauga-based culinary master.

Paramount Fine Foods, the fastest growing Middle Eastern Restaurant chain in North America, recently announced that it plans to open 16 more locations across Canada in 2019.

As you might recall, Paramount Fine Foods is one of the city’s biggest culinary success stories. The brand is is operated by the Mississauga-based entrepreneur Mohamad Fakih, who made headlines in 2017 when he announced that Paramount would pay for funerals for the six Muslim men who were gunned down at a mosque in Quebec City’s Sainte-Foy neighbourhood.

He also pledged to hire Syrian refugees to work in his restaurants.

Last year was also a big year for Paramount. The company took over the naming rights of the Hershey Centre (the long-standing sports complex and arena is now called the Paramount Fine Foods Centre) and opened 21 new restaurant locations.

Paramount now operates 65 locations internationally, and has even expanded into the United Kingdom and the Ivory Coast.

“We are excited to announce that we have signed a master franchise agreement for the province of Quebec and will be expanding rapidly in this market. Plans are already underway for expansion into Ottawa, Alberta and British Columbia,” the company said in a news release.

The brand has also announced plans to partner with Chef Massimo Capra, the celebrity chef who currently runs Capra’s Kitchen in Clarkson and The Rainbow Room in Niagara Falls.

“Paramount has met with Chef Massimo Capra and will be collaborating to launch a new Paramount business concept in the Greater Toronto Area by the end of 2019,” the news release reads.

“This new concept is very exciting and will make the fresh, authentic flavours of Paramount more accessible to those guests that are craving the true taste of the Middle East”

Paramount says more information on the venture will be available soon.

“2019 is shaping up to be one of the biggest and brightest years for Paramount, I am so excited about the opportunity to expose the Paramount brand to new markets across Canada and the world. At Paramount we bring all walks of life together, to enjoy great food, great company and to celebrate life. We truly hope we can use the Paramount culture to make Canada and other communities across the world more inclusive,” said Mohamad Fakih, founder and president of Paramount Fine Foods.

Paramount has locations in Canada, the U.S., Lebanon, Pakistan, the U.K. and Africa.

The restaurant opened its first location in Mississauga in 2007.
