Mississauga and Brampton residents must still put tags on extra garbage bags next week.

Mississauga and Brampton residents will not be allowed to put extra garbage to the curb for pickup next week as originally planned.

Region of Peel officials say the fall garbage exemption period, initially scheduled Sept. 13-24, has been suspended in response to COVID-19 concerns. They note the exemption has been shelved so they can ensure the health and safety of essential, frontline staff.

Officials remind people that unlike the Region’s regular pre-pandemic exemption periods, unlimited amounts of untagged garbage will not be collected. Rather, all extra trash bags must have tags.

Bulky item collection will continue every garbage pickup day, the Region says.

Residents can take excess garbage bags or bulky items to any Peel Community Recycling Centre, where disposal fees will apply.
