Peel Region (Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon) once again has the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rate out of all of Ontario’s public health units.

Toronto-based research group ICES ranked all 34 public health units in Ontario for the week of May 16 to 22 based on their percent positivity (percentage of positive tests in the area).

Peel currently tops the list at 11.28%, narrowly surpassing Porcupine in Timmins with 11.13%. Hamilton and Toronto are listed at 8.34% and 7.86% respectively.

Ontario overall is listed 10th at 6.06%.

Peel’s percentage is down from last week where it reported 12.57%.

The same data for the week shows that of the 50 areas in Ontario with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity, six are in Mississauga and eight are in Brampton.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of May 16 was 6.2%, a drop from 7.2% the previous week.

Ontario has reached 57% overall vaccine coverage among those aged 12 and up, a 3% increase from the previous week.

ICES has noted steady declines in COVID-19 testing rates among younger age groups in most of Ontario, especially school-aged children and young adults aged 18-22 years old.
