Police in Mississauga and Brampton are not taking the weekend off as they continue to keep roadways safe and charge speeding and impaired drivers.

Police charge a G2 driver travelling at almost 100 km over the posted speed limit with a full vehicle of friends in Mississauga.

Constable Crouse of Peel Regional Police Road Safety Services clocked a vehicle going 156 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on Eglinton Avenue near Tomken Road.

Inside the vehicle was not only the driver, but four of their friends as well.

According to the Ontario demerit points website, a G2 driver who exceeds 50 km/h over the posted speed limit receives an immediate 7-day license suspension and vehicle impoundment.

The driver also accrues six demerit points and is at risk of facing a 30-day to 2-year license suspension as well as possible jail time up to six months.

Additionally, officers of the OPP Highway Safety Division charge a 24-year-old male from Brampton with impaired driving after blowing over 80 this morning.

Toronto OPP officers were performing an early morning RIDE program in the area of Keele Street and highway 401 when a Brampton resident failed the screening.

The 24-year-old driver blew over the legal limit of 0.80 blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and received a 7-day vehicle impoundment as well as a 90-day license suspension.
