Missing child found in corn field overnight in southern Ontario

A child who was reported missing by his family was found in a corn field in the middle of the night, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said that just before 6 p.m. on Monday, Perth County OPP officers began a search for a two-year-old boy after he was reported missing.

A number of resources were used, including canine units, remotely piloted air systems, and an OPP helicopter.

Huron Area Search and Rescue, firefighters, and emergency medical services also assisted.

Resources were deployed to the Trowbridge area.

Around eight hours after the child was reported missing, shortly before 2 a.m., he was found in a nearby corn field.

OPP said he was assessed and cleared by EMS before being reunited with his family.

“The Perth County OPP extends its sincere gratitude to all those who assisted in the search efforts and supported the family throughout this incident,” said Staff. Sgt. David Sinko.

“This successful outcome is a testament to the collective efforts of all involved and reinforces the importance of the resources and partnerships available to the OPP such as HASAR when responding to complex and major incidents.”
