UPDATE: Missing Brampton woman, 81, found dead

An 81-year-old woman from Brampton was found dead Monday afternoon, one day after she was reported missing.

Peel Regional Police confirmed to media that the body of Pasho Bassi was recovered around 5 p.m. on June 27 from a waterway in the Valley Creek area of Brampton, near Lexington and Long Meadow drives. The elderly woman had last been seen around 8 p.m. on Sunday at her residence near Cottrelle Boulevard and McVean Drive in Brampton.

Const. Sarah Patten of the Peel police, who is a media relations officer, told Greater Toronto Area media outlets that the circumstances of Bassi’s death are not considered suspicious. But she affirmed that a coroner’s report will be needed to confirm the cause of death.

“We do want to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones and friends of Mrs. Bassi,” Patten said. “And we are going to provide any necessary support that they need.”
