Missing boater search in Oakville after vessel found unoccupied

A police marine unit and the Canadian coast guard are searching for a person after finding an unoccupied vessel on Thursday night (Aug. 26).
The Halton Regional Police Service says the vessel was located near the mouth of 16 Mile Creek. A water search is underway. The HRPS Oakville detachement is asking for Lakeshore residents to check the shoreline between Burloak Drive and Trafalgar Road. During nighttime searches, flares are used to enhance lighting, which illuminates the sky.

Parts of Halton Region along Lake Ontario were under a severe thunderstorm watch, with the possibility of gusting winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour, earlier in the evening. The watch was lifted at 8:38 p.m.
