The combined efforts of the motorists who spotted them, the Niagara OPP and the SPCA helped corral a couple of mini-ponies who had somehow stumbled onto the Toronto-bound QEW lane near Beck Road at about 8 am this morning (June 22).
Motorists who spotted the pair instantly pulled over to lead the salt-and-pepper duo back to the safety of the grassy area adjacent to the highway.
If you leave your gate open…your children may wander off. These two ponies were located near the QEW and Beck Road #NiagaraOPP and SPCA were able to keep them from getting hurt and got them back home about a kilometer away. #HappyReunion pic.twitter.com/2U8KwlbvMc

When the OPP and SPCA arrived, they were then herded into the back of a horse trailer and taken safely back to their home a kilometre away.
In a tweet, the OPP Highway Safety wryly noted: “If you leave your gate open, your children may wander off. #HappyReunion.”
