Milton’s Ishan Sharma led all scorers with 19 and Oshawa’s Efeosa Oliogu was perfect from the floor, but it was big man Oliver Rioux’s eight-point, 11-rebound effort that earned Top Performer honours as Canada overwhelmed Brazil 92-53 in the final preliminary game of the FIBA U-16 Americas Championship.

Canada finished second behind Argentina in their group and will play Puerto Rico Friday in the quarter-final. A win in that game puts them on a path to meet the powerful Americans in the semi-final Saturday, but also guarantees them a spot in next year’s U17 World Cup.

Sharma had his best game of the tournament while Oliogu continued his efficient play by going 7/7 from the floor and 2/2 from the line for 14 points. Both players added three rebounds.

Enrico Bianch led Brazil with 13 points.

Argentina finished atop Group A with a 3-0 record after trouncing host Mexico 71-49, while in Group B action the USA put a beating on Chile 138-59 and the Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico 75-67.

Other quarter-final action Friday has Argentina taking on Chile, the U.S. playing Mexico and Brazil facing the Dominican Republic in what should be the closest match of the day.

The final is scheduled for Sunday.
