Milton Council unanimously endorsed the “Milton Youth Strategy” as part of its annual budget process, applying the framework for an advisory committee, a youth-focused symposium, and enhanced youth week programming.

Milton has one of the youngest populations in the province with an average age of 33.5, according to the latest available federal census data from 2016. By contrast, the average age in Ontario is 41.

“Youth are an integral part of the Milton community and it’s important that we invest in spaces and opportunities that support their development and wellbeing,” said Community Services Commissioner, Kristene Scott. “The Milton Youth Strategy is our commitment to provide services and programs that support a youth-friendly community.”

More than a quarter (26.7 per cent) of Milton residents are 14-years-old or younger; compared to the provincial average of 16.4 per cent.

According to Council, the Milton Youth Strategy was written based on feedback collected directly from youth in 2018. They say the recommendations aim to strengthen the community’s commitment to engaging youth, supporting their growth and development, and building strong relationships between youth and the community.
