Milton Skating Club’s Madeline Schizas has qualified for Team Canada after winning gold in the Canadian National Skating Championship.

As a result, the 18-year-old Oakville native, who is also Milton Public Library’s first community ambassador, will be going to the Beijing 2022 Olympics in February to compete in women’s figure skating.

“I’m going to the Olympics! 12+ years after this crazy journey began, and I honestly can’t believe that I really made it all the way,” wrote Schizas in a heartfelt post on Twitter.

“A big congratulations to @MaddieSchizas, our first MPL Community ambassador, for winning gold in the Canadian National Skating Championship, which qualified her for #TeamCanada,” wrote the Milton Public Library in a tweet.

Schizas began skating at the age of three and is the 2020 International Challenge Cup bronze medalist as well as the 2020 Canadian national bronze medalist.
