Milton shuts down neighbourhood ice rinks

Volatile weather conditions have forced the early closure of all four of Milton’s outdoor neighbourhood ice rinks.

The rinks, operated by community volunteers, were operating at Laurier Park, Meighen Park, Scott Neighbourhood Park East and Wilmott Park.

The outdoor rink program started in October with volunteers building, operating and maintaining the ice surface in neighbourhood parks with the assistance of Town staff.

“While it’s unfortunate we couldn’t officially open the rinks due to unfavourable weather conditions, the Town is impressed and appreciative of the efforts put forth by volunteers to establish rinks in four different locations in the community,” said Kristene Scott, Milton’s commissioner of Community Service. “We look forward to working with neighbourhood groups to reinstate the program again next year.”

Although the outdoor rinks may be closed, you can still skate indoors at the Milton Sports Centre and Sherwood Community Centre. More information about ice time availability can be found here.
