This week, students at a Milton secondary school celebrated their first day in their new building.

Elsie MacGill Secondary School, located at 1410 Bronte St. S in southwest Milton, is the newest secondary school in the Halton District School Board (HDSB).

The school, which was named after Elsie MacGill, the first practicing woman engineer in Canada, was set to open earlier, but construction delays in the building resulted in students temporarily having to learn in portables at Milton District High School.

Yesterday (Feb. 7), the school celebrated its official opening and encouraged students to wear the school’s colours of orange and navy blue.

“Today was the dawn of a new era! After five months, we were finally able to move into our permanent home today! Such a great feeling to be in this awesome place with such great students and staff members,” said the school on Twitter.

“This is always a great day for celebration! So amazing to see this. Congratulations,” said Councillor Mike Cluett in response to the school’s tweet.
