A school in Milton has reported an absence rate of over 75 per cent.

According to provincial data, Ernest C Drury School for the Deaf, located at 255 Ontario St S, has reported a total absence rate of 75.9 per cent that reflects absences reported for Feb. 18, 2022.

The Province of Ontario has been monitoring overall absence rates in schools as of recently, as opposed to the reports of COVID-19 cases.

As a result, the Ministry of Education is now requiring schools with a student and staff absence rate of 30 per cent or more, to report them to their local Public Health Unit.

The reason why students and staff have been absent is not specified and while it is not known if the reasons are related to COVID-19, there have been some concerns over the accuracy of the figures since certain schools mark remote-learning students present at times where they may be isolating.
