Restaurants and bars in Milton will soon be able to apply for the Town’s seasonal patio program.

Due to the success of last year’s program, the Town has decided to continue it in 2022.

As a result, the Town will begin accepting applications beginning on Mar. 10 for local establishments that would like to extend and operate patios in certain areas.

According to the Town of Milton, during the 2021 season, there was a 20 per cent increase in permit applications compared to 2020.

Additionally, approximately 30 businesses secured temporary patio permits in various locations across the community.

According to the Town, participating businesses reported that the program helped to recover some lost revenue from the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 30 per cent of participating businesses also reported that the program allowed them to hire additional employees in 2021.

Currently, permits for the 2022 patio season are tentatively set to come into effect for a community-wide patio opening on Apr. 15.

For patios on public property, the program will run through to Oct. 31, 2022, and until Dec. 31, 2022, for patios on private property.
