Milton man faces charges after Halton cop injured during arrest attempt in Burlington

A police officer was injured while investigating an alleged stolen vehicle in Burlington and Halton police are appealing for witnesses or dash cam footage.

On Monday, Feb. 28, at about 2:45 p.m. an officer began an investigation into a stolen vehicle at a parking lot at 963 Francis Rd., in the area of Plains Rd. E. and the QEW.

A suspect was located inside a brown pickup truck and the officer attempted to make an arrest. The suspect resisted and set the truck in motion, dragging the police officer a short distance. The officer suffered minor injuries.

The suspect’s truck also struck a cruiser and an uninvolved parked car during its escape. Police did not pursue the pickup after it fled the parking lot.

Through further investigation police identified and arrested the suspect.

Timothy Burt, 35, of Milton has been charged with dangerous operation, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure to stop after accident, and assaulting peace officer with weapon or cause bodily harm.
