A 29-year-old Milton man has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death after a fatal crash in Milton last year killed three members of a Mississauga family.
Halton Regional Police told inhalton.com that Shuvanga Khanal is scheduled to next appear in court on Jan. 30, 2023.
The multi-vehicle crash happened just after midnight back on June 19, 2021 and took the lives of Athula Karunananda, 56, his wife, Somikelum Karunananda and their daughter Predeepa, 28.
Police say a Cadillac sedan driven by Khanal was travelling southbound on Fourth Line when it collided with an SUV, with the Karunananda family inside, going eastbound on Britannia Road at around 12:30 a.m.
The two vehicles had extensive damage as a result of the crash.
“Two of the SUV’s occupants died at the scene while the third succumbed to their injuries during EMS transport to a trauma centre,” Halton police said in a statement following the crash.
