Milton Hydro warns customers of disconnection scam

Milton Hydro is warning residents of a disconnection scam that is currently circulating in the town.

Milton Hydro is advising residents that if they have received emails, texts, calls or letters threatening to disconnect power during the winter disconnection ban period, to not respond.

The winter disconnection ban is in effect from Nov. 15 to Apr. 30.

“If you receive an email, text, call or letter threatening to disconnect your power during the winter disconnection ban period, don’t respond,” wrote Milton Hydro on Twitter.

“You are protected from electricity disconnections for non-payment from Nov 15 – Apr 30. Call us at 905-876-4611 if you suspect a scam.”

If customers receive these calls, they may also contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
