After the season was put on a brief pause due to COVID-19 restrictions in Ontario, the Milton Menace is celebrating after winning their first game back.

The team won 5-3 against the Burlington Cougars on Feb. 1 and following their win, the Milton Menace tweeted, “It’s sure good to be back!”

At the beginning of January, the junior hockey team started the year off with a big win until the Ontario government made an announcement regarding new restrictions that would affect the season.

The announcement came on Jan. 3, when Premier Doug Ford said that due to a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, the province would temporarily be moving to a modified Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen resulting in the remainder of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) being put on hold.

As a result, Milton Menace Hockey Club owner, Jason Tryfon announced he would be standing outside of the arena during scheduled games as a ‘silent tribute’ to the kids who were unable to play hockey as a result of the new restrictions.

On Jan. 31, the temporary restrictions were lifted, meaning the season was allowed to resume.

The Milton Menace are scheduled to play again on Feb. 4 against the Georgetown Raiders.
