The Milton fire department is participating in a safety campaign this month to help keep residents safe during the holiday season.

Sparky’s “12 Days of Fire Safety” campaign, which features the National Fire Protection Association’s mascot, Sparky, aims to provide safety tips to residents ahead of the holidays.

The campaign features 12 fire safety topics that protect against seasonal risks including electrical, cooking and heating fire prevention.

Additionally, it features scenarios with Sparky to help inform the community about the importance of being extra careful during the holiday season.

“Stay alert and keep your loved ones safe this holiday season. We encourage you to enjoy the festive season while staying vigilant and always making fire-safe choices when entertaining, decorating your home, and keeping warm this winter,” said Milton Fire Chief, Peter Gatto.

One way residents can stay safe this season is by ensuring their real trees are watered every day and keeping them away from any ignition source.

Residents are also reminded to keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources such as light bulbs and heaters.

Additional tips will be shared on the Milton Fire Department’s Twitter account.
