Milton District Hospital receiving funding to support surgical care

Milton District Hospital will be receiving funding from the province to support surgical and diagnostic care for patients.

Today, (May 3) Halton Region MPPs Effie Triantafilopoulos, Stephen Crawford and Parm Gill announced that the Ontario government will be investing $2,077,160 to support a total of four surgical innovation projects in Halton Healthcare.

This means that hospitals in Milton, Georgetown and Oakville will all be able to perform additional surgeries and procedures.

The funding will support the following projects.

A total of $180,000 will go towards a holmium laser for urinary tract stone surgery at Milton District Hospital.

A total of $382,160 will go towards process improvement for MRI scans at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Milton District Hospital.

A total of $690,000 will go towards the expansion of endoscopy capacity at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

Additionally, a total of $825,000 will go towards training for perioperative (OR) nurses at Georgetown Hospital, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Milton District Hospital.

This funding is part of the government’s expanded $86.2 million Surgical Innovation Fund that will support over 100 projects and provide hospitals across Ontario the flexibility to perform additional surgeries and procedures.

“With this investment from our government of over $2 million, Halton Healthcare will continue to ensure patients and their families have access to the care they need,” said Parm Gill, MPP for Milton.

“Our community relies on our local healthcare services and our government is proud to make investments that will support the needs of our growing town.”

More than 200 proposals were submitted for review by hospitals across the province and a total of 187 projects were approved.
