A Milton councillor has been elected as the President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) board of directors.

Halton Regional councillor and Milton councillor for Ward 1, Colin Best, has been acclaimed as the president for a two-year term until 2024.

Councillor Best has served as Chair of the Board’s Regional and Single-Tier Caucus since 2018 and has been Halton Region’s representative on the AMO Board for two terms.

Additionally, for the past year, he has served as the Chair of AMO’s Health Task Force.

AMO is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works to support and enhance the province of Ontario’s 444 municipalities.

“On behalf of Regional Council, I congratulate Councillor Best on his appointment as President of the AMO Board of Directors,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr.

“Colin has worked tirelessly to advocate for municipalities and to protect and advocate for the interests of the Halton community, including ensuring provincially mandated growth is not burdened by existing Halton residents, advocating for access to universal broadband and more. I know he will continue to make a positive impact during his term as President.”

Since 2018, Councillor Best helped advance the priorities of municipalities across the province, which includes important discussions for COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

He has also continued to stress the need for all communities, including rural Halton, to have internet access and has participated in various AMO Task Forces on behalf of the region such as health, housing, Indigenous Relations, planning and waste.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the President of the AMO Board of Directors for 2022-2024,” said Regional Councillor Colin Best.

“Over the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with elected officials from across the province to overcome challenges and accomplish many shared goals. I look forward to continuing our efforts together. Thank you to my colleagues for your continued support.”
