Two local business owners have started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees escaping the war.

The fundraiser page was started by Kapi Komera and Mike Cherneta, owners of CARSTAR MGM Auto Group, which owns collision repair shops in Milton, Georgetown and Mississauga.

“As we watch what is unfolding in Ukraine, it touches all of our hearts and hits home for some more than others,” wrote Cherneta on the page.

“Being born in Ukraine and spending a significant number of my childhood years there, this is very close to me.”

According to the page, all funds raised will go to the All Slavic Full Gospel Church in Hamilton, which is organizing assistance for refugees that are fleeing the war. It will also work directly with local churches and families to assist with food, medical expenses, shelter, transportation and more.

The fundraiser’s goal is to raise a total of $45,000. As of Mar. 22, 2022, the page has raised over $3,700.
