The Milton Menace Hockey Club is proving itself a good community teammate when it comes to helping out the Milton Minor Hockey Association (MMHA).

The Ontario Junior ‘A’ Hockey League club announced on Thursday (Sept. 22) a joint partnership with the local hockey association that will see players from the Menace support MMHA level teams.

The Menace will be assigning players from its roster to help Milton Winterhawks minor hockey rep teams ranging from the Under-8 club all the way up to Under-15.

“These highly skilled Menace athletes will provide support and mentorship to the teams and players from the MMHA by participating in on-ice practices, attending games, and getting involved in community events for both house league and representative teams,” the Menace hockey club said in a media release.

The COVID -19 pandemic over the last two years has had a significant “impact” on sports, and most importantly youth sports. The result has been a decline in participation and registration with the MMHA.

Taking a positive approach over 2020 and 2021, the Menace hockey club arranged for meetings with their players, and the MMHA players who struggled with returning to the game.

“These Menace players shared the challenges that they themselves have endured throughout their hockey careers, and the pandemic years, to show these MMHA athletes they were not in fact, not alone and this yielded overwhelmingly positive feedback,” said the Jr. ‘A’ hockey club.

“The Milton Menace and their players are there to support the teams and players in the MMHA, whether on-ice from helping with drills, or pre/post practices speaking with the players and showing their support.”
