Former Thunder Bay police chief arrested and charged

Three men have been arrested in a police drug raid in Thunder Bay, including one each from Hamilton and Niagara.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service, their Intelligence Unit and Community Oriented Response and Engagement (CORE) Unit raided an apartment near 100 Simpson St.

The area sits by the bank of the Kaministiquia River, which flows into Lake Superior. The neighbourhood began as the city’s first business district but has in recent years developed a poor reputation due to drug use and vandalism.

Police entered the Simpson St. apartment on Feb. 22 around 3:30 p.m. Inside police claim to have found suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine, more than $5,000 and drug dealing paraphernalia.

Investigators believe the seized drugs are worth around $23,000.

Three people are charged with possession of fentanyl for trafficking, possession of cocaine for trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. They include;

  • Eric Mason, 23 of Hamilton,
  • Ackiem Plummer, 32 of Niagara Falls, and
  • Edward Ramsbottom, 55 of Thunder Bay

All three were remanded into police custody until following a bail court appearance on Feb. 23.
