Fans of two sandwiches originating from the Mediterranean can sample them both at a new restaurant opening in Mississauga.
Döner & Gyros opens a new location on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3910 Eglinton Ave. W. Unit 40 (Eglinton and Ridgeway plaza), Mississauga.
Döner & Gyros opened in 2014 with a dream to combine the two favourite sandwiches in one shop. Currently, they have one location in Scarborough and a head office in Markham.
The döner sandwich dates back to the Ottoman Empire and was made famous by a Turkish immigrant Chef Mahmut Aygun who opened a döner restaurant in Berlin, Germany in 1971, according to the Döner & Gyros website.
The Gyros sandwich is similar to the döner but has a distinct Greek flavour with freshly made tzatziki sauce.
The Döner & Gyros menu also includes a falafel wrap along with platers and a rice bowl.
The restaurant has a soft opening starting at noon on Saturday.
