Medical episode suspected in fatal 3-vehicle crash in Whitby

A 79-year-old driver who died in a three-vehicle crash in Whitby is believed to have suffered a medical episode that caused the fatal accident.

On Friday (April 26) Durham Regional Police responded to a collision on Rossland Road East and Garden Street.

One of the drivers involved in the crash, a 79-year-old man, received emergency medical treatment at the scene and later died in hospital from his injuries.

Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical episode that led to the collision.

Authorities have yet to release further details about the man who died, including his name or his place of residence. They have also not disclosed what specific medical episode he experienced.

Officials have also not provided additional information on the number of occupants in each vehicle during the accident or whether anyone else sustained injuries.

The area was closed for several hours while evidence was collected and has since reopened to drivers.
