Hamilton’s McMaster University lowered its flags and illuminated its campus buildings in recognition of the victims of the Holocaust.
Hamilton Hall and University Hall on McMaster’s main campus will remain lit with yellow lights until sundown on Friday, marking the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and honouring the millions of victims of Nazism.

Since 2005, the United Nations has recognized Jan. 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day to educate and reflect on lessons of the Holocaust to help prevent future acts of genocide. A commemoration ceremony is being held at the UN headquarters in New York. The global event is being live-streamed.
