Massive Winners store opens in southern Ontario shopping mall

The wait is over, Winners officially opens at Square One Shopping Centre today.

The off-price retailer’s newest location opens on level two above the Food District at 9 a.m. on April 20. The space was previously occupied by Urban Behavior, which confirmed it was closing last year.

The new, 35,438-square-foot store offers brand-name fashion, footwear, accessories, beauty products and home décor.

Winners is excited to open in Square One.

“Opening at Square One is a big moment for Winners. As one of Canada’s premier shopping destinations, it’s the perfect place to bring our brand to this vibrant community,” said Natalie Zaremba, a spokesperson for Winners. “Built for discovery, this new store is where the latest trends meet unexpected finds, and we can’t wait to welcome shoppers in.”

Winners offers discounted products through a “wide variety of opportunities, which can include department or specialty store cancellations, a manufacturer making up too much product, or a closeout deal when a vendor wants to clear merchandise at the end of a season,” the company says on its website.

Winners was founded in 1982 by David Margolis in Toronto. It was one of the first off-price department stores in Canada. In 1990, it merged with U.S. off-price department store owner TJX.

Winners now has over 300 stores nationwide.
