Massive, multi-tower development would bring 3,000 new residential units to Mississauga

Mississauga is considering a plan that would see a huge new residential development with more than 3,000 units and multiple highrises take shape on Dundas St. E. near the city’s border with Toronto.

The proposal, brought to the City of Mississauga back in September by Hazelwood Investments, includes a call for 3,027 residential units, 10 towers between 12 and 41 storeys in height, and 2,500 square metres of ground-floor retail space.

Broken down, the call is for seven buildings between 12 and 18 storeys and three buildings between 29 and 41 storeys in height.

The development is being proposed at 1580 and 1650 Dundas St. E., several blocks east of Dixie Rd. and on the south side of the major road.

City officials and councillors will discuss the proposal at an upcoming meeting of the planning and development committee.

According to the developer’s plans, 1,706 of the proposed living units would be one-bedroom apartments while 731 would be two-bedroom units.

Additionally, 10 townhomes are proposed for the eastern edge of the site and there are plans to build new public parks on the land.

In its proposal to the City, the developer contends plans represent an opportunity to revitalize an underutilized parcel of land located right along the route of the future Dundas Bus Rapid Transit system.

More than 2,400 resident and commercial parking spaces and 2,755 parking spots for bicycles would be part of the plan.

The Dunwynn Centre plaza is currently on the site and would be demolished to make way for the development, if approved. Several businesses, including Monte Carlo Billiards, are part of the plaza.

Given that areas of the site are considered significant woodlands, some environmental concerns would have to be resolved before plans are made to put shovels in the ground.
