Massive $50 million lottery was won in Canada

A lucky Lotto Max ticket has turned someone into a multi-millionaire, with one of the country’s biggest jackpots being claimed in the most recent draw. It marks the continuation of a remarkable run of lottery fortunes for Canadians in recent years.

The September 5, 2025, Lotto Max draw carried an estimated $50 million jackpot. The main draw numbers were 04, 16, 20, 30, 34, 46, 50, with the bonus number 40.

In addition, two MaxMillions $1-million draws were announced: 05, 28, 29, 36, 41, 48, 49 and 06, 24, 28, 32, 41, 45, 48.

The winning $50 million ticket was sold in Québec, according to Loto-Québec.

Recent record wins

This is not the first time Lotto Max has delivered a massive prize in 2025. On July 11, 2025, two Québec residents, Jacques Deschamps of Montérégie and Wilhelmina Van Leeuwen of Montréal, split a $70 million jackpot, each taking home $35 million. Just a month earlier, in June 2025, a group of 15 coworkers at a car dealership in Trois-Rivières won a $20 million jackpot, instantly creating 15 new millionaires.

Historical highlights in Québec

  • $80 million jackpot (September 2024): The largest Lotto Max prize ever awarded at the time was split between two winning tickets, one sold in Québec and one in Ontario.
  • $65 million jackpot (June 11, 2019): A single ticket sold in Montréal scooped the entire prize, the first win of its size in Canada.
  • $55 million jackpot (July 17, 2015): A group of 20 Rona employees shared the jackpot, one of the largest group wins in Canadian lottery history.
  • $40 million prize (December 2024): Québec retiree Jean Lamontagne claimed half of an $80 million jackpot. He famously returned to his workplace to host a farewell pizza party before retiring.
  • $7.65 million jackpot (1986): The Lavigueur family of Montréal won what was then the biggest payout in Loto-Québec’s history. The story became part of Québec pop culture due to the family’s public disputes after the win.

A winning streak

With the latest $50 million prize claimed in Québec, the province continues its reputation as one of Canada’s luckiest lottery regions. For the new winner, a single ticket has turned into a life-changing windfall — and another chapter in Canada’s growing history of record-breaking jackpots.
