It remains masks on at Oakville, Milton and Georgetown hospitals and other Halton Healthcare facilities.

While the provincial government is set to lift mandatory mask mandates in select high-risk settings on Saturday (June 11), Halton Healthcare announced its maintaining its masking policies and procedures across the organization, including at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Milton District Hospital and Georgetown Hospital.

The health unit says it is keeping the safety of its patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and members of its healthcare team in mind with the decision to continue masking.

“Masking will continue in our hospitals and community clinics as part of our enhanced infection prevention efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” says Cindy McDonell, Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations at Halton Healthcare.

“This is an added layer of protection for our patients, some of whom are elderly or have compromised immune systems, as well as our team members.”

Despite lower community levels of COVID-19, everyone entering Halton Healthcare facilities must be sporting a mask. The decision to continue to wear a mask beyond Saturday aligns with many other Ontario hospitals.

Other protocols such as answering standard screening questions and hand sanitizing will continue to protect patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and visitors.

Halton Healthcare will continue to review all COVID-19 safety protocols on a regular basis.

“If visitors arrive without a mask, they will be provided with an appropriate one,” said McDonell.

“We do appreciate the support of our communities – and we thank everyone for continuing to understand that what we’re doing is for the safety of our patients and our staff.”
