The quintessential Canadian festival has come and gone for another year in Clarington, with perfect spring weather bringing out the crowds for the annual Maplefest celebration of all things maple.

The festival, which took over historic downtown Bowmanville from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, showcased local syrup producers who offered up the best of the region.  Maple products abound, from treats such as maple donuts, cheese, candy, nuts and fudge to the dark and delicious elixir itself, pure maple syrup.

The festival took up four city blocks with unique items from craft and food vendors (butter tarts for the win) ready to explore and plenty of kid-friendly activities as well.

Free admission, free parking and a free shuttle service (new this year) from Clarington Fields made Maplefest an easy choice for families looking for something to do Saturday.

Plenty of festival goers also took the opportunity to rest their feet, listen to live music and enjoy a cold one at Brewer’s Pantry in the middle of the King Street strip, with Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster of those enjoying the moment.

“It’s been an awesome day,” Foster said. “There’s been tons of people out having a good time and enjoying the weather.”

“It’s always sunny in Bowmanville.”

Preparations are already underway for next year’s event, which will be the festival’s 35th anniversary.
