Spectrum Square Phase I and II is one of 24 buildings and projects nominated for Mississauga Urban Design Awards.

Those looking for a fun activity on the weekend may want to check out the 24 contenders for 2023 Mississauga Urban Design Awards.

The Mississauga Urban Design Awards competition, held every two years, began in 1981 and is the longest-running awards program of its kind in Ontario.

The 24 buildings and projects nominated for 2023 — including Meadowvale Theatre, Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus Student Centre and the Lakeshore Lofts — were announced in June.

This year’s theme is “The Next Big Thing.”

And although a six-member jury will select winners in various categories, there is a People’s Choice Award. More than 1,000 people have already voted but the deadline to choose a favourite ends on July 30, according to the city.

So the City of Mississauga is putting out the final push to get people out to vote.

City staff created the map to make it easier for residents to check out the buildings and projects.

The city reminds people visiting the projects to be respectful of the space and of people who may occupy these spaces.

For more information on all the nominations and to vote, visit the website here. Winners will be announced on Sept. 21.
