It appears the Omicron variant isn’t the only thing to be weary of lurking in the shadows of Brampton.

Some residents have been noticing an increase of coyote sightings in Flower City, which they’ve shared on social media.

Recently, Reddit user u/karlhungus posted in the Brampton subreddit page about spotting a coyote three times over a span of four weeks in the area of Elgin Drive and Main Street.

“I would advise anyone with outdoor pets along Elgin Dr, Main St, Mill Street South, or McMurchy Avenue to keep them indoors if possible overnight,” they said in the post.

User u/socks_mcgee also commented frequently hearing and seeing the wild animals in the area, even suggesting they have become more bold in how far into the city they venture.

One user, u/OneHundredAndEightyy made a tongue-in-cheek reference to the original commentors post about one of the coyotes crossing the street on a red light.

“A true Brampton-ite,” they commented.

Additionally, while many residents may be seeing coyotes frequently now, it will likely increase in the new year, as January and February is mating season for the animals, meaning they will likely be even more active than they are now.

Residents who encounter a coyote are instructed to refrain from approaching them, and rather back away slowly while remaining calm.
