Despite the fact many people are now working from home, just steps away from their kitchen, 68 per cent are still skipping lunch while working.

According to a recent survey from Tork, 39 per cent of people say they only occasionally, rarely or never take breaks during the workday, while 22 per cent said they feel guilty or judged when they take a break in the middle of the day.

Additionally, women are more likely to feel like they can’t take a break—67 per cent of women said they don’t take breaks compared to just 33 per cent of men—and when women do take breaks, 22 per cent spend it doing household chores.

However, 91 per cent of respondents report working as much, if not more, than before the pandemic, and 94 per cent said they feel happier at work when they’re able to take breaks.

Further, 94 per cent of respondents said taking a break allows them to refocus on a problem and provide a fresh perspective, while 88 per cent of employees and 91 per cent of managers said they feel more focused and energized after a break.

Moreover, 90 per cent of respondents said they are more likely to stay at a company where managers encourage workers to take breaks.
