Man with gun spotted outside Oakville high school

UPDATE 12:36 p.m. – Halton police say one male suspect is in custody.  Schools remain in lockdown (no one can enter or leave) and hold and secure (no one can enter) at this time.

UPDATE 1:13 P.M. – Hold and secure and lockdown orders have been lifted for all schools. Residents are no longer requested to shelter in place. An ongoing police presence is expected as the investigation works to a conclusion.

 

Halton Regional Police say a male has been spotted with a gun outside the area of Oakville’s Garth Webb Secondary School on Tuesday (March 1) at noon.

Police are asking people to avoid the area around the school, located at 2820 Westoak Trails Blvd.

The male gunman is described as white with long brown hair and was wearing all black. He is considered armed and dangerous and police are asking the public to not approach him and immediately call 911 if you see him.

Garth Webb has been placed on lockdown.

Schools placed on hold and secure are:

  • St. Joan of Arc Catholic Elementary School
  • Captain R. Wilson Public School
  • Willowglen Montessori School
  • St John Paul II Catholic Elementary School
  • Emily Carr Public School
  • Heritage Glen Public School
  • Abbey Park High School
  • St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School

Area residents are being asked to shelter in place.
