A man who won a $40 million lottery jackpot in Canada kept the windfall a secret and may continue working.
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation announced in a media release that Phuc Duc (Daniel) Chau won the jackpot from the May 23 Lotto Max draw.
Chau bought his ticket while stopping at a 7-Eleven in Burnaby to get some sparkling water.

He later discovered the big win while at work.
“I was going through my bag to find a cough drop, but I saw that I had two lottery tickets in my bag and decided to scan the tickets, but I needed to update the app first,” Chau recalled.
“The first ticket I didn’t win anything, but the second said ‘$40 million.’ I have never seen that many zeroes in my life, ever. I dropped my phone and then called BCLC right away.”
But it appears Chau didn’t call anyone else to tell them about the win.
At the time of him claiming the prize, he said he hadn’t even told his partner.
“My partner doesn’t know yet. I want to share the news with them in a special way,” Chau said in the BCLC release.

In terms of his plans for the money, it seems much of it is still up in the air.
Travelling will likely be on his list.
“There are so many places I want to go to, so I haven’t fully decided,” he said.
Chau said he might even keep his job.
“I haven’t decided, but I want to continue to support my community in a different way.”
Overall, he said the win means a lot to him.
“It opens up an opportunity for me to give back to my family, community and the world all around me. It’s not meaningful unless you can share this with those who need it,” he said.
