A search is underway for an unidentified man who approached a Whitby home and drew a knife on a woman when she opened the door.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on January 21, a man got into the condo building at 712 Rossland Rd, according to Durham Regional Police. He made his way up to the 12th floor and knocked on a condo door.

The condo the man chose belonged to an elderly woman. The man brandished a knife and ordered her to leave.

The woman stood her ground and refused to exit her home and managed to shut the door. The man then fled the building through the back door. He walked away southbound down Teddington Crescent and police were called shortly after.

They describe the suspects as white, around 16 years old, with dark curly hair and a round face. He stands about five-foot-four with a heavy build.  He wore a black puffer jacket, a black Under Armor shirt, dark pants and white earbuds.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation, or with security footage of the area around Teddington Cr. can call D/Cst. Fitzgerald at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1877 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
