A man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to two violent sexual assaults, including one that took place in Mississauga in 2013.

The second assault occurred in Richmond Hill in 2014.

York Regional Police say that on Sept. 27, 2013, at approximately midnight, a woman was exiting a bus in the South Service Rd and Crestview Ave. area in Mississauga when a suspect with a weapon grabbed her and pulled her into a dimly lit area, where he sexually assaulted her.

Police say a second incident occurred on Nov. 13, 2014 at approximately 12:20 a.m. According to police, a woman exiting a bus in the Yonge St. and Canyon Hill Ave. area in Richmond Hill was approached by an unknown man with a knife who demanded money. Police say he then pulled the victim into a field and sexually assaulted her.

Police say a thorough investigation was conducted, but the suspect remained at large until the fall of 2021.

On March 11, 2022, the accused was charged with several offences, including kidnapping, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault causing bodily harm, robbery and more.

The Centre for Forensic Sciences notified investigators of a possible link from an unrelated incident. The information led officers to identify the suspect

On Jan. 30, Jaehyun ‘David’ Cho, 33, pleaded guilty before Hon. Justice Ghosh to several charges, including kidnapping, uttering threats to cause death and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.  He was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in custody.
