Man pulled over in Whitby for wrong license plates wanted after he fled scene

A man is wanted after he allegedly fled a traffic stop in Pickering when he was pulled over for sporting the wrong license plates.

According to Durham Regional Police, their officers noticed a car driving down Dundas St. in Whitby with license plates that did not match the vehicle.

The car pulled into a gas station in the area where police soon caught up with the driver. The man gave the officers a fake name, police allege, and locked himself inside the car.

Next the man drove erratically through the parking lot to elude police and managed to get away, investigators claim.

They’ve since released an arrest warrant for Valter Pereira-Cabral, 29 of no fixed address, on seven charges including fleeing police, obstructing a peace officer and dangerous driving.
