Simply put, there are no words. At least not for Alfredo Vazquez, one of Ontario’s newest millionaires thanks to the lottery.

The Mississauga man recently cashed in a $1 million Lotto Max Maxmillions ticket from the May 2 draw, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation officials said in a news release on Wednesday.

Vazquez, whose ticket was purchased online at OLG.ca, chose not to offer any comments or other information to lottery officials for publication related to his thoughts about the big win or what he intends to do with the money.

And that’s OK.

While most lottery winners — especially those who claim the larger cash prizes — are happy to share a few comments with the public via OLG and the media after picking up their winnings, that’s not the route Vazquez decided to take.

The lucky ticket holder had his photo published, as lottery rules stipulate, and then went quietly on his way — which is perfectly fine, say OLG officials in charge of running the various lottery games and draws. Not every winner of a big cash prize has something to say.

While most big winners do choose to offer public comments and reaction upon claiming their giant cheque, they’re not mandated to do so. They’re only bound by lottery rules to either have their photo taken by OLG officials or supply a photo themselves for publication.

OLG officials say Lotto Max players in Ontario have won more than $9 billion since 2009, including 115 jackpot wins and 943 Maxmillions prizes.
