Man killed near Sarnia identified as Ajax teen

A man killed in the Sarnia-area town of Petrolia has been identified as an 18-year-old from Ajax.

OPP officers were called to a home on Crooked Road in Enniskillen around 2:30 December 28 after calls regarding a suspicious man, and found human remains when they arrived on scene.

Their investigation led them to a home on Watson Road in Sarnia, where they found a second body. Lambton OPP identified the man found on Watson Street as, Lance Richardson, 31, of Mississauga the January 1, but the remains found in Petrolia remained a unidentified.

Police have now identified the first victim found as Jelani Byer-Coates, 18 from Ajax. He is described in an Arbor Memorial Funeral Home guestbook as “Such a bright light. Taken too soon from his twin brother, his mom and the rest of his family,” by Claudia Coore.

The OPP have point on the investigations and are supported by Sarnia Police Service.

Matthew Theriault, 42 of Sarnia has been charged with two counts of second degree murder and two counts of committing an indignity to a body.
