Man killed by garage door in Caledon workplace death identified

Police have identified the Caledon man killed at a worksite last week after investigators say he was trapped under a garage door.

Members of the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are assisting with a death investigation at a commercial property in the Town of Caledon.

Around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday (June 30), the Caledon OPP say officers were called to a commercial property on Airport Rd. near King St. in the Town of Caledon for reports of an unresponsive male.

Police say the investigation revealed that a man had been trapped under a garage bay door.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified by police as 85-year-old Pasquale Salerno, of Caledon.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Federal Department of Labour were notified and are investigating the incident. The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) are assisting with the investigation.

The fatal incident was the second workplace death in Caledon last month.

On June 1, 62-year-old Woodbridge resident Ernesto Campoli was killed in a worksite incident on Abbotside Way near Kennedy Road in Caledon.

Police say Campoli was hit by a heavy excavation truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.
