Man injured in late night shooting in Fort Erie, suspect arrested

Niagara Regional Police have made an arrest following a shooting Friday night in Fort Erie.

At 10:23 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance report on Bertie Street between Central Avenue and Concession Road, and located a 24-year-old man who had been shot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, then airlifted to an out-of-town trauma centre for advanced medical care.

“The victim has since been released from hospital and continues to recover from home,” said police.

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Joey David Buccilli, who was arrested shortly after the incident.

He is charged with possession of a firearm without a licence, discharging firearm with intent to wound, careless use of a firearm, aggravated assault, and pointing a firearm.

Police believe Buccilli and the victim are known to each other.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing that is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Jan. 21 via video link to the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton.
