Niagara Parks Police are investigating after a man in a minor accident leapt into Niagara Gorge and had to be rescued.

A 19-year-old man went from bad to worse this morning after getting into a minor fender-bender.

Niagara Parks Police said emergency crews had to be called to River Road between Seneca and Eastwood around 3 am this morning (July 7) after a man got into a minor accident and then bolted from the scene, vaulting the retaining wall and falling into Niagara Gorge.

The police say the man, who is a Niagara resident, was saved by the Niagara Falls Fire Department and was then airlifted to a Hamilton hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The collision – and his unusual reaction to it – remains under investigation.
